Similar to death, Santa Claus has many faces and names, Kris Kringle, Father Christmas, Saint Nick —he’s actually a combination of historic figures and myths all blanded into a more common version. Equal parts Saint Nicholas, a bishop in 4th century Greece that was known for his gifts to the poor, Father Christmas, dating back during the reign of Henry VIII personifying “joy, good spirits and cheer” and Sinterklaas, which is where Santa Claus’ name derives from.
